The Seoul Museum of Art has chosen “architecture” as the focal theme for its 2024 exhibition agenda, aligning this decision with significant institutional transformations, including the opening of a new branch and the renovation of the Seosomun Main Branch, and seeking to explore the domain of architecture from a multidimensional perspective. A key part of the initiative is the opening of the exhibition titled “Architecture, Space Time Scenarios,” which offers a contemplative examination of architecture with an emphasis on the concept of “time.”
We designed the exhibition and also participated as an artist with a piece titled "Multipurpose Art Gallery." The contemporary public art museum has been recategorized as a venue for communal life sharing, with its functions broadening beyond the conventional scope of collection, exhibition, and education. Museum-goers are no longer solely focused on the museums’ scheduled programs; instead, they are anticipated to engage in a comprehensive experience that encompasses relaxation. This artwork serves as a multifunctional arena, facilitating a variety of activities, such as encouraging the audience to occupy seats of diverse designs, appreciate art as one would a landscape, engage in conversation, learn about art, and unwind. It acts as a conduit for fostering dialogues among professionals navigating the complex layers of the art scene, alongside elucidating the function and significance of public art museums.
